6 months from today I will celebrate the 10th anniversary of my 30th Birthday.
Whoa….
How did I get this old?
Truth be told , I still feel like a spry young lassie.  Well except for those days when my arthritis kicks in.    I swear, as I have gotten older I have turned into a barometer.  I no longer need to check the weather channel before leaving the house; I just ask my knees what the weather will be like.  They can tell you when that low-pressure system is coming well in advance of needing an umbrella.
I don’t feel like I’m going to be 40.   Or do I?  What should almost being 40 feel like?
It seems like just yesterday I turned 21 and was walking across the quad back to my sorority house after my first night of adult libations.  Okay lets be honest here, it was really just a celebration of me not needing a fake ID any longer.  First night of adult libations is an utter lie.
I know when I turned 21 I felt a great sense of relief  but I also felt freedom.  Turning 21 provided me entry into an adult world.  I could now do things and go places I could not do or go to before, LEGALLY.  And, what a relief it was to no longer fear bar raids and getting arrested with a fake ID.  Huge monkey off my back, I tell ya. (see mom, it all worked out okay.  I totally dodged the bullet on that one.)
When I turned 30 I felt like I turned into an adult.  I had a well paying job that I enjoyed.  I had papers signed to buy a condo.  I had a car and a car payment.  I was LIVING life as a responsible Adult.
So what is it that comes with 40?  Are my 40’s  just a decade that transcends me to my 50’s and menopause?  Will I start looking  like THAT OLD PERSON at music festivals?  Will I be shunned at the GAP?
What will come when I turn 40?

I was just talking to a couple of friends last night about the exact same subject – as she is turning 40 next year and is quite surprised as I am that time has gone by so fast. It’s half a life already – assuming you are living to 80.
I think that really, age is just a number and you realize that as you grow.
Sometimes when I am talking to younger people, they will address me with words like “Ma’am” and I flip – i guess what makes me feel older is actually my surroundings. Like you, I am a young chick 😉

Lorena I don’t feel old, but that darn number keeps on changing.
