I signed up to climb the Hancock this year(the 1/2 climb, not the whole, I’m on the waiting list for the whole). I’m still not sure why I want to climb over 800 stairs and then I remind myself it’s for a good cause. Not only do proceeds benefit the respiratory health association, but my butt will also benefit.
Last night I commenced my training with Charlie (he’s doing it too). My building is 26 stories which means I have to hurry down the elevator to actually get in all the flights that I need to climb. Easy in theory. I did 20 flights last night and my quads are killing me today. My pace was not really a hustle more like a saunter while gasping for air after 5 flights. I also felt queasy from looping around so much and few lights in the stairwell were on the fritz..the techno effect from the blinking lights made me want to hurl.
The worst part..the climb DOWN from 27 to 13. I hate walking down stairs. It freaks me out. Since I was a kid, I have been afraid that I was going to trip, fall on my face and break all my teeth.
Anyhow…My training is going to be a mix of climbing 2x per week and running with Bikram added for good measure. I actually have not been to yoga in a few weeks, my schedule has been really horrific these past few weeks. I keep wanting to go ..meaning to ..making excuses not to go. So..I AM GOING ON THURSDAY. I really need to go, it keeps me in check.
My next climb will be this weekend..I hope my quads and calves quit hurting by then.

Holy crap! I’m in awe of you, Delane. Climbing, running, and bikram (you know you love it!) is an amazing combo. Good luck with the Hustle.
