I love a good race t-shirt but I was even more delighted yesterday when I picked up my race packet for the She’s Got Sole 8K race to find not 1 t-shirt but 2!! I got the race t-shirt and I got a volunteer t-shirt because I volunteer with the Junior League of Chicago and they were helping out at the race. Woot!!!

I made last night an early night. I went to bed at 11 ish and set the alarm for 6..snoozed to 6:45. I woke up 2x’s and drank some water and fell right back to sleep.

I got up feeling okay today. No major aches or pains, stomach felt good and I felt oddly awake. I put on my clothes and was off. We drove to the race and found parking right away. I got my chip and waited.

and waited
and waited

then it began to rain

and waited
and waited.

Promptly at 7:58 we went into the shoot. No music, no national anthem….just the horn.

I was off…mile one 10:46. I felt good but knew I need to slow down. It was raining, but nothing horrible. It actually kept me cool.

Mile 2 and 3 were okay. I stopped once to fidget with HRM band. I crossed the Mile 3 marker at 36:56 on my watch. There were no pace clocks on the course.

I walked though the mile 3 water stop. The sun came out. Ugh, where was my cool rain?

Mile 4 was HARD..I had only trained to about 4.25 miles. I did a run walk most of the way. I also managed to miss a turn or something because I was not on the course. I did manage to get back on it before the end. Um..yeah.

I don’t think that I cheated myself out of any distance, .1 miles at the most. I looked at the map, and where I ran and where the course was looked the same. I’m still wondering where I went wrong.

I FINALLY saw the finish line and booked it.

Official times have not been posted. But I think I saw 1:04. I’ll have to find where the results are posted.

Why are race pictures the most unflattering pictures taken ever!

Just looked up my official time 1:04:39.8 ..BELCH! Only way to go is up.
