Oh how I love Christmas! And to kick-off the 2010 holiday season Charlie and I headed to the Christkindlemarket Friday night at Daily Plaza for a pre-theater cocktail, Glühwein!

We then saw Billy Elliot.  The role of Billy Elliot was played by an Asian child who was not a very good dancer (in my non-professional opinion).   Other than the odd looking child playing the lead character, the musical was good.   Chicago, Cabaret and Wicked are still my favorites.  And oddly, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was really good when I saw it on Broadway.  Like the holidays, I’m a sucker for musicals.  I love the symphony.  And I even like the Opera (although you never understand what they are singing).

After the theater we had a late night dinner at Girl & the Goat (Stephanie Izard’s restaurant, she was the winner of season four Top Chef (Chicago)).  We went to one of her Wandering Goat Dinners and her restaurant opening week.  We have been wanting to go back since.

Our meal was delicious!!!!!

We ate:

Focco bread with mushroom butter and herbed oil

kabocha squash ravioli . mushroom raisin ragout . brussels leaves . shroom creme fraiche (OMG THIS WAS GOOD!!!!  No really, this was one of the best things I have ever eaten)

seared scallops. pumpkin brandade . pecans . fried brussels sprouts . tarragon . pomegranate

goat, pork and veal sugo . pappardelle . rosemary . cape goose berries

braised beef tongue . masa . beef vinaigrette . salsa verde

We finished our meal with a sticky date cake

If you have not been to her restaurant you must go.  NOW!

I can’t do just a pre-theate drink, and with the abundance of pre-theatre dinner offers available these days it would be rude not to make a full night of the theatre.
