Back in March I was one of the VERY few but VERY VERY lucky diners to enjoy a tasting series of 10 beers brewed for The Aviary by the Evil Twin team.

This very special night was hosted in both The Aviary and Next.  Both Grant Achaz and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø were in attendance.  Jeppe is considered a gypsy brewer.  Evil Twin does not have a brewing facility but rather collaborates with different breweries creating limited-edition brews

Like any event or meal that Grant Achaz is involved in (well I’m actually convinced he eat cocoa pebbles and lucky charms from the box at home, because what chef is going home and cooking?  It would be like me going home and writing status reports and project plans for my mundane life), the food was spectacular.  Each beer was paired with a food that complimented the brew. And in true Achaz mastery the food elicited the five senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

The beer was aged in a uniquely sourced barrel including Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Elijah Craig 12 year, Plantation Rum, Casa Noble Extra Anejo and,  Laird’s Bonded Apple Brandy barrels.

The grand finale was beer 10 which was a blend of beer 1-9.  Personally, I loved Nine (hoppy) and Six (Fruity) the best.

It was a great night with excellent food and superior libations.  And like every great Next and Aviary  event, we rolled home high on hops, barely and life.
