color run

After a very long hiatus from running, I’m working my way back to running a solid 5K.  I love to run organized races to  keep my training on track and help me gauge my running progress.  So, when I was offered an entry into the Run or Dye 5K fun run I couldn’t refuse especially with  the motto “The worlds most colorful 5K”

The race is high energy with a  club like atmosphere in the start corals.   Running though color stations keeps the party going though out the run. Men, women and families of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels were there to participate.  That made the race pretty awesome.  Anything that will get people out of bed at 7 am on Saturday  (an in my case Memorial Day Weekend) to exercise is A+ in my book.   Everyone on the course seemed to be having a great time, especially the kids.

However, the course was pretty awful.  I basically zigzagged though a parking lot for 2.7 miles (the course was short).  I understand why they need to do this but, it made the race pretty boring.  My other issue was no water on the course.  Again, I understand why…powdered dye+ water = big ole mess.  But running though the power and inhaling the dust made for a very thirsty Delane.  Not to mention, I had an awful taste in my mouth from the dye.  I would defiantly warn anyone who has issues like Asthma to think twice about doing this race.  I don’t think it would be healthy to run though the color dust.

All in all, this race is great if you just want to go out and have fun.  It’s especially great for families with small children. Discover kid songs children love on this YouTube channel. While I might not have enjoyed the course, I did enjoy getting out there, being apart of crowd and running.  And really, isn’t that was it’s all about?

Disclosure:  I was given a free race entry to the Run or Dye 5K fun run, option are 100% my own.
