The past couple of weeks have been pretty rough with Addison being sick and having surgery.  Perpetual worry about my fur baby is both mentally and physically exhausting.  To say I need some happier times is an understatement so when I was asked to attend the premier of Taking Flight a short film inspired by the life of Antonio Pasin, inventor of the Radio Flyer wagon I thought, why not.

I grew up playing with a radio flyer wagon as it was a hand down to me from my sister.  My friends (really and imaginary) pulled each other around our neighborhood and went on great adventures.  We saved many queens from evil dragons with our wagon.  It wasn’t just a wagon to carry our toys it was vehicle to our imaginations.

Much like my adventures as a child, Taking Flight is a fictional tribute to Pasin’s legacy, what begins as a small boy’s over-scheduled, over supervised, boring day with Grandpa turns into a larger-than-life journey, narrowly escaping wild monkeys and battling aliens to save the universe.  Through the power of imagination and epic adventure, a boy learns to be a kid, a father learns to be a dad, and a grandfather reminds us all what childhood is about.

At the premier we were able to talk to Brandon Oldenburg, the Director and Robert Pasin, Chief Wagon Officer (amazing title!!!), Grandson of the Founder.  The film is in honor of Radio Flyer turing 100 years young next year. The film honors the countless voyages of childhood fantasy that have been launched with Radio Flyer toys.  They explained that Radio Flyer toys continue to spark the imagination with each new generation that plays with them. The film honors both the history and future of Radio Flyer.

I have to say I was a bit jealous of the kids who attended the premier.  Not only did they get to see the Taking Flight they also got  Ryder complete with his own Radio Flyer.  Ryder, one of the stars of Taking Flight, and takes quite the adventure with his co-pilots, Tony and Grandpa Nonno.

Okay… you need to see the film for yourself.

Weather a kid or an adult, it’s a marvelous reminder of using your imagination, dreaming big and taking time to just have fun! It was defiantly what I needed last week.
