According to the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), excess weight as measured by BMI is not the only risk to your health. Where excess fat is located on your body may be another risk.  If you carry fat mainly around your waist, you are more likely to develop health problems than if you carry fat mainly in your hips and thighs. This is true even if your BMI falls within the normal range. Women with a waist measurement of more than 35 inches or men with a waist measurement of more than 40 inches may have a higher disease risk than people with smaller waist measurements because of where their fat lies.

Challenge Details?
S/he who loses the greatest % of inches or centimeters around their waist wins!  There will also be a runner up (2nd place) and honorable(3rd place) mention.

This challenge will run February 1 through February 28th.  You must enter by February 7th.

How to Participate:
1. Send me your initial waist measurements (see below for details).  Email your stats to delane73@gmail.com or place them in the comments.
2. Optional: take a picture of  your waist (see above for example), send it via email to me with your goal
3. Optional: Post your progress on weekly progress blogs in the comments sections
4. Send me your final results on February 28th

What do you win?
A smaller waistline!!!  Other prizes of a physical nature will be announced at a later date, but there will prizes!

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WAIST
To measure your waist circumference, place a tape measure around your bare abdomen just above your hip bone. Be sure that the tape is snug (but does not compress your skin) and that it is parallel to the floor. Relax, exhale, and measure your waist.

Awesome idea Delane!! I do have a bit of a pooch, but my real problem areas are my arms and BEHIND! Oh, and my thighs. I guess pretty much my whole body minus my eye balls. I look forward to following this.
